Mummy Range Institute Position Statement on Health Care

The United States of America has approximately 47 million citizens with no health care coverage and another 50 million who are underinsured. Medical bills contribute to 50% of bankruptcies even though 75% of those people have health insurance. We spend on average, twice as much money per person on health care as other industrialized countries and yet rank 37th in the world in health care (World Health Organization 2000).

Both small and large businesses are being severely impacted by the huge increases in health insurance premiums (up 84% between 1996 and 2006). Rising health care costs make it increasingly difficult for U.S. Companies to compete in the world market. Private insurance administrative costs amount to about 25% of all health care spending compared to a 3% administrative cost for Medicare.

The Mummy Range Institute supports a single-payer universal health care system for all U.S. citizens. We endorse the United States Health Insurance Act (H.R. 676) and Health Care for All Coloradoans single payer proposal.
